Cardinals,
Spring break is just around the corner and I hope everyone is going to enjoy a little time away to get ready to finish the school year strong. Once we return from break there are some big events coming up and everyone in our Cardinal family should mark their calendars. We have ISASP testing, graduation, and the end of the school year.
The Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP) is our annual testing that occurs each spring to give us a snapshot of how our students in grades 3rd – 11th have progressed since last year. These assessments will begin in April 2023. The best thing all parents / guardians can do is to make sure our students get plenty of rest. It is also important to remind all of our students to give it their best effort.
Graduation is the final stage of education here in the Newton Community School District. This means we will be sending another group of Cardinal graduates off to their next stage of life. While it is still a couple months away, please save the date on your calendars to help our seniors celebrate their successes as they transition from students to alumni. Join the Newton Community School District on May 19, 2023 for WEST Academy’s graduation, and on May 21, 2023 for our NHS graduation ceremony.
The Newton Community School District just updated their school calendar to adjust for the snow days which was February 16, 2023. This day of school will not be made up by students. This means the last day for students is still on May 26, 2023. Staff will return after Memorial Day and have two make-up days (May 30th and May 31st). If there are any additional school cancelations, students would be making up the day from February 16 and the additional school cancelation day. The reason for forgiving the snow day at this time is so that students do not have to come back to school after a three-day holiday weekend for just one day.
As always, it is great to see our young Cardinals every day in our buildings. Finish strong and enjoy the remainder of our 2022-2023 school year. Most importantly, make the most of your time in the Newton Community School District where we are honest, caring, positive, fun, and supportive.
