Newton By The Numbers
Written by: Newton School District | January 20, 2020
The second semester is here and everyone is busy completing the winter activities and preparing for the spring. 2020 will bring exciting opportunities for our students as they prepare for the post-season tournaments in basketball, bowling, swimming, and wrestling. Soon, golf, soccer, tennis, and track and field will begin with softball and baseball not far behind. We also have exciting fine arts activities slated with Pacesetter Dance competitions, theater play performances, jazz band competitions, state solo and ensemble band and choir, honor bands, along with the band trip to Florida just to name a few. It will be a busy and productive semester.
In February, our 5th annual middle school Lip Sync Battle will take place and all proceeds will be donated to childhood cancer research. Check out the video on The Bridge. To fight cancer, our wrestling and basketball teams also get in on the action by fundraising at recent competitions hosted in the Newton High School gym. Another example of our student's (and staff) concerns about real world issues. Newton is a giving community whether it is cancer research or supporting the community on Red Pride Service Day. 2020 will be a big year as our students work to grow, learn, give back, and make a change in our community.
Come join us!
Newton High School is really stepping up their game when it comes to giving back to our community! On January 9th, the Newton High School Wrestlers participated in a match against Oskaloosa with a theme to "Pin Cancer!" A donation page was designed and the sale of t-shirts eclipsed their goal and raised $1900 which was donated to help St. Jude Children's Research "pin cancer!"
The Newton Senior High School basketball teams are working to provide their spark to "Conquer Cancer on the Court." On January 24th, the basketball teams will be taking donations before and during the games to "Give Cancer the Boot" and additional fundraising will include special t-shirt orders and a bake sale during the games. The Pacesetters will perform and they will take time to recognize cancer survivors and honorees. This will be a great event supporting an important cause. Mark your calendars and come out and support the Cards and "Give Cancer the Boot."
It is time for the Fifth Annual Lip Sync Battle produced by Berg Middle School Student Council will be on February 21st, 2020! These passionate students will be raising funds for Four Diamonds-who looks to battle childhood cancer and support the children and families struggling through it. Their hard work and passion will bring the students together as a team, help them gain confidence, and give them experience working with local professionals. Check out the videos below to learn a little more about how the students decided to support Four Diamonds, and what they have planned for the Fifth Annual Lip Sync Battle!
