Cardinals,

We are approaching one of the most exciting times of the year for the entire community - Homecoming. The theme this year is “Neon Nights at NHS.” Students are excited for Dress up Days and the thrill of our high school students going to the other buildings to demonstrate the pride of being a Newton Cardinal. The community will be engaged as the parade travels from the high school to the downtown square for the kickoff of homecoming festivities.

While activities may be the same on the schedule, we are taking certain precautions to maintain some social distancing. Some of our High School Cardinal students will still travel to the other buildings for their assemblies, but the assemblies will be held outdoors to allow for more social distancing and outside air. The fun and excitement of Homecoming is an important tradition that we all want to experience and we will do so while taking health and safety into account.

Darren Hurt has been at Newton Community School District his entire teaching career. As he enjoys his last year at Berg Middle School, he reflects on his time in the District and what it has meant to him and the students.
