Greetings from NHS!

The school year is off to an incredibly fast start. It is hard to believe the Class of 2027 is now roaming the halls of NHS. The freshmen class came in and quickly joined pace with the upperclassmen going to classes and participating in activities.

Speaking of activities, the students began preparing long before the first day of school for their various teams and clubs. The hard work has paid off as the teams are overflowing with students who want to wear the Red and Black. The Cardinal Regiment has been practicing all summer and now have new marching uniforms that they donned at the second home football game of the season. The band looks and sounds terrific. We are anticipating another great season.

The sports teams are off to a fantastic start in terms of wins and losses and participation. As mentioned previously, students are joining the teams in droves, increasing the participation rates to new heights. All of the squads are finding success and making the town of Newton proud. We encourage each of you to come out to a game or concert and support the Cardinals.

The FFA had an amazing summer and are continuing with that success at state and national level competitions. The Newton Chapter is one of the finest in Central Iowa with enrollment nearing one hundred students.

As we move toward the end of the first term, be sure to stay involved in your students' academic progress. There are multiple methods to communicate with staff and we encourage you to contact the school with any and all questions. Seniors will have their first meeting in early October regarding graduation. If you have a graduating Senior please standby, as information regarding cap and gown orders is coming soon.

Seniors and juniors interested in exploring a career field or having an internship please speak to your counselor. NHS is strengthening its connection to the business community by partnering with local businesses to provide internships and possible job training and advanced education. Also, those interested in going to college or advanced training please begin the search and complete applications NOW! Our career center is full of useful information and we regularly host guests from the local colleges to meet with NHS students and make a plan for the future.

In closing, please come out and support the Cardinals this fall. There are opportunities for everyone to get involved. Help us help your students make the most out of their high school years.
