Cardinals,

The year is winding down and the excitement is building for that last day of school and some other very important events. The school calendar has been adjusted for the two days of school that were cancelled due to weather. Please take just a few minutes and mark your calendars with a few of our important dates.

The end of the school year has been moved to May 27, 2022 for students and to June 1, 2022 for teachers. The students will end their 2021 – 2022 school year before Memorial Day and will begin their summer break. Staff will come back for a professional development day and work day. This means we are beginning the process of transitioning to the new school year. As things wrap up don’t forget to get your student(s) re-enrolled. If you know of any new students to the area, encourage them to get registered! The information on registration and re-enrollment can be found on the school website.

Another big event coming up quickly is our BIG GAME! This is one of the greatest events of our school year. The BIG GAME will be held at the Newton High School on Friday, April 29, 2022 at 2:00 PM in the big gym. This basketball game is always a student and staff favorite and should not be missed.

While we have many exciting opportunities to watch our students in action and be involved in their educational process, I would be remiss to leave out graduation. WEST Academy’s graduation will be held on May 20, 2022 at Berg Middle School at 4:00 PM. Newton Senior High School will hold their annual commencement ceremony on May 22, 2022 at Maytag Park at 3:00 PM. These are my personal favorite celebrations of the school year. It is the true culmination of all years of education for our Cardinal seniors, and it is an event which they will remember for the rest of their lives. Join us to help recognize the hard work and dedication of our graduating Class of 2022, as well as to help recognize the families and friends that supported our seniors in their quest for a diploma.

As we finish up the school year, I hope you are able to look back on the school year and recognize our successes and help us build for the future. We need your continued support and collaboration. Enjoy the next several weeks and remember there is no place better than Newton!!

Student Registration and Re-Enrollment

Student Registration & Re-Enrollment for the 2022 – 2023 school year has begun!

The Newton Community School District is proud to offer families top-notch and best educational choices in Iowa. We serve approximately 3,000 students (PreK – 12th Grades) enrolled in small class sizes at our seven schools – four elementary, Berg Middle School, Newton High School, and WEST Academy.

PRESCHOOL REGISTRATION – 4 YEAR OLD PROGRAM

If your child will be 4 years old on or before September 15, 2022 please complete and return a Preschool application (with required documents) to the Central Registrar’s Office (EJH Beard Administration Center, 1302 First Avenue West – Newton, Iowa).

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION

If your child will be 5 years old by September 15, 2022, your child can be registered for Kindergarten. Please complete and return a Kindergarten application packet (with required documents) to the Central Registrar’s Office (EJH Beard Administration Center, 1302 First Avenue West – Newton, Iowa).

RE-ENROLLMENT INSTRUCTIONS FOR CURRENTLY ENROLLED STUDENTS

For information on re-enrolling a current student through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal, please click here! Re-enrollment for the 2022 – 2023 school year opened Mon, March 7, 2022.

REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR NEW or RETURNING STUDENTS

Families new to the Newton Community School District or returning after ending their enrollment, or after being enrolled in another district, will need to contact the Central Registrar during business hours (Mon-Fri) (7:30 AM – 4:30 PM) to begin the registration process.
